2005 F650cs For Sale to a Loving Home

2005 F650cs For Sale to a Loving Home
I’m ready, but not eager to part with my beautiful bike of 1 1/2 years. I brought her home last June from an Arizona dealership, where she came in as a trade with virtually no miles on her. She currently boasts 13K loving miles and is just as beautiful as the first day I saw her. Stone Gray. Never laid down, but she’s been tipped over once, no worse for wear. She boasts ABS, 3 more years of a transferrable extended warranty, heated handgrips, a newly recovered seat that is way more comfortable than the factory seat, and a detachable helmet lock for the stuffbay that also works to secure the included (but well worn) backpack or a jacket to the bike. I got her new shoes in March, and they are perfectly broken in, in my opinion and have many more miles to go. Always dealer serviced, with service records and referrals. The only reason she’s going up for adoption is that it’s time for me to specialize and get a separate track/canyon bike and a touring bike. This bike is the perfect combination of both. She’s got more than enough power to enjoy the canyons, bomb through Los Angeles traffic, and take loaded down camping trips.
Price: $6000

O Lovos, evidentemente, seria movido a eletricidade.

Gallery// Two Superb Bimmers

Well my last post got me browsing through my photo archive and I came across this very nice pair of BMWs. Photographed by John Batte, it’s two very nice perspectives. On one hand you have the grey 335i rocking the traditional BBS LMs, and that looks just fabulous. Then the white four-door M3 is being original with the Advan RG2s. No complaints on either of these cars. Both are looking great and awesome photography, too!

2 Article Special: Official Cash for Clunkers trade-in list + Really, a 1997 Bentley Continental R was traded in as a clunker for $4500?

Ok, so while scouring the web for some car stories, I recently came across this article:

Mixed reaction has surrounded the government’s Cash for Clunkers program, but after spending around $2.8 billion, some 700,000 new vehicles have found homes. But what got traded in? We’ve heard some horror stories, but now that the full list of executed vehicles has been released on the Cars.gov website and we’ve listed some of the oddities we found while snooping around. Many are down right hard to believe, suggesting either errors in the submission process, typos in the list or even some fudging by dealers who clunked a few vehicles that weren’t eligible. After the jump is a list of “Clunkers” that stood out. We can’t guarantee these all really went to the crusher, but they do appear on the list.

Follow the jump for a recap of the program’s eligibility requirements for trade-in vehicles and our full list. And we’d suggest having a box of tissues nearby.

[Source: Cars.gov]

We’ve outlined the rules of the government’s Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save Act of 2009 (CARS) program before, but we think a refresher is warranted before you browse the list below. Customers were able to bring in an old “clunker” no older than model year 1984 that got, at most, 18 mpg if they were buying a new vehicle with better mpg. That trade-in had to be in running condition and insured for at least one year prior to the trade. A rebate of $3,500-$4,500 for the trade was applied towards a new car purchase based on the difference in mpg between the old and the new vehicle. Dealers did most of the work, verifying the eligibility of the traded vehicle and seeing to it that the old cars were properly disposed of. That included disabling the engine and guaranteeing the cars were shredded before the government refunded the money.

NOTE: We find it hard to believe that many vehicles in the list below were actually destroyed through the Cash for Clunkers program, and while they may be officially on the list, their inclusion is more likely explained by an error in the submission process, typos or dealerships that managed to game the system.

Link to the story

Basically…. I feel very bad for a lot of these cars. Yes, I know they aren’t a form of life, but a lot of these were either classics or kind of new… for example.. a 2005 RX-8. Really? If it was in good condition, why would someone be dumb enough to trade it in. I don’t want to same people are stupid… but… people are stupid. Many people don’t know what their cars are worth. 4 MKIV Supras, which are already hard to find, were crushed? I don’t care if they were non-turbo or whatever (if they were turbo, I’d be pissed) but the fact that even the name won’t stop them from crushing the car and seizing the engine. There goes another classic: An RX-7. Really? Just even looking at the individual list makes me cringe. All of these cars contributed to the “economy getting better.” Hokay… who rights these legislation rules anyways? Seriously.

At first I thought, “Hey, this might be a good idea.” Now, after the list comes out… a big giant *facepalm* is all I can muster. I just gave myself a concussion. I blame the people who don’t know what their cars are really worth nowadays…

Just felt like ranting for the next few minutes before bed.

Last thought:
1997 Bentley Continental R…… $250,000 back in its day reduced to a mere $4,500….

Click that and read away… Sad results.

This caught my eye:

The 2008 model year vehicles deemed clunkers ranged from a Scion xD to 10 Mercury Grand Marquis sedans to two copies of special edition F-150 pickups, sporting 450-hp V8s and Chip Foose-designed paint jobs.

Tsk tsk… should have at least given a year restriction on the cars.

News Facts

  • On the ADAC website you find a list of 51 German Transport Museums and private collections.
  • Race driver Stirling Moss was 80 years old on September 17.
  • In summer 1934 the production of the Roadster BMW 351/1 started in Eisenach, Germany.
  • The new ‘Meilenwerk’ opened in Böblingen near Stuttgart, Germany. You do not only find all kinds of workshops for Classic cars, but also shops and parking space for classic cars in glas boxes. To the air-conditioned boxes only the car owners have access, but they give the whole parking space some kind of museum like impression.

"Ken" Deleted Scene 2 - Jack's Death

I took this scene out because it was too comedic for the purpose of the scene.
When I went to school, “Jack in the box” was pretty much the only option for lunch and I was so sick of having it every day.
This was a little tribute to “Jack in the box”.
I also felt really bad for Gerardo who played the passenger on the other car. He stayed all night for that scene but I had to take him out in order to make the scene work.
A few years later, I gave him a small roll in “Harvest”, the short film I produced.
Check out the scene and tell me if you like it.

BMW F650 GS

The all-new 2009 F 650 GS offers more power and more thrills per mile than ever before in the form of a 71 hp, torque-filled, twin cylinder engine. From touring, to off-road exploring, to sporty handling on the tarmac, this middleweight machine, based on the much anticipated F 800 GS, does anything and everything the ambitious motorcyclist could ever want. With a rigid steel tube trellis frame, it’s sturdy. With a double-sided swing arm and chain drive, it’s reliable. And with a low seat height and narrow design, it’s ideal for darting through trees or traffic. Cast aluminum wheels and telescopic forks keep the ride smooth and precise at all times. Throw in disengageable ABS and even Tire Pressure Monitoring as options, and you get a road-hungry, enduro-styled motorcycle that can tackle anything in its path and beg for more.

Il Salotto D1 SR20 M3

Going through my library of older shoots I came across this car that I shot back in 2006. Built by Il Salotto of Tokyo it was one of only a few import cars that have ever competed in the D1 Grand Prix championship. It all began in 2005 when Il Salotto turbocharged an M3 and tired their luck out in D1, but the car was never really competitive enough. They decided to abandon the M3 and start fresh with an all-new project based on a stock 318i. The E36 was fully stripped out, put through some serious spot and seam welding as well as getting tons of extra reinforcements around highly stressed areas of the chassis. A 23-point roll-cage was also fabricated and welded in place. Continue reading at Speedhunters

Meister Andrang: Ganz klar – Lamborghini.

Infiniti, Toyota, Land Rover, Mercedes, BMW…

What will become of BMW Sauber?

Mario Theissen (left), CEO of BMW Sauber with the author (centre) in happier times

BMW announced yesterday that Qadbak Investments had agreed to purchase the BMW Sauber Team. The announcement described the team’s new owner as a ‘Swiss-based foundation which represents the interests of certain Middle East and European based families’. I guess it will become clearer over time as to who these Middle East and European based families are (not the Quandt’s I assume). However the question remains as to what is being bought and to what end. Is this a potential investment with the investor buying the team at a knock-down price and looking to sell on the team should it be eventually granted a place on the F1 grid (which is by no means certain), or is this a serious commitment to take the operation forward. Time will tell.

BMW E21 Retro Racer

This BMW E21 belongs to Dieter Verboven, although you might remember his other car I featured back in March. Like his Lancia, the attention to detail on this build is top caliber and is definitely feature worthy during September’s BMW month. This isn’t the first BMW that Dieter has owned, before this one he had an E30 convertible. With the E30 he won several prizes, but because of the laws in Belgium, he didn’t had a lot of fun driving it on the open road. All cars need to be stock when taken to the garages for road permits, so the scope for performance modifications is limited. But this is not the case when your car is 25 years or older. So the plan was to look for another BMW that was older, and this E21 proved to be the perfect candidate. Continue reading at Speedhunters

Automotive Brand-Building In China: Opportunities And Challenges Abound

Western, Chinese Brands Vie For Customer Loyalty As Emerging Middle Class And “Nouveau Riche” Demand Continues To Grow

Buick has capitalized on its reputation for quality and luxury in the Chinese market, enjoying massive success and launching China-only models like the Excelle

As demand for new vehicles has remained sluggish in developed markets over the past two years, major automakers have rightly looked to retool their strategies to draw customers and build their brands in new markets. As we’ve written before, selling your brand in markets like China, where customers expect different things — and derive status from very specific brand attributes –  represents both a major opportunity and a new challenge. A good example of an automaker that has benefitted from the “blank slate” allowed it by entry into the young Chinese market is Buick, which has a reputation as a car for older, or middle-aged, drivers in its native market, the USA, yet has — through aggressive branding and advertising efforts — developed a reputation as a sleek, luxurious, youthful brand in the Chinese market.

So how can car brands optimize their brand equity in China? Depending on where they come from, their strategies differ greatly. While American car makers like Ford have had great success in overseas markets like Europe by pushing their reliability and value, in the Chinese market imported cars are, generally, chosen by buyers to be a status symbol, rather than “inexpensive.” Ford, then, cannot compete on price alone, as Chinese automakers like Chery and Geely — which have sizeable lineups of entry-level models — will always be able to undercut them. As a result, it is important for foreign car makers to not just build their brand in China, but to build a strong brand in China, one that speaks to Chinese consumers in a way that domestically-produced autos cannot. To break it down further, foreign automakers need to build a strong, distinctive brand — a German car must fit Chinese conceptions of German cars, Japanese cars Japanese attributes and so on.

In practice, how are foreign automakers faring in their Chinese branding strategies? Today, Reuters looks into the “uphill road” these brands are traveling in China, and how they have refocused their branding strategies to varying degrees of success. Using the example of a “nouveau riche” car buyers who has traded his BMW in for an Audi  — since the Audi has developed a strong reputation in China as a car for bureaucrats or (comparatively) “old money” while BMW is considered a brand for the nouveau riche (a group into which the buyer in question is loath to be grouped) — the article provides valuable insight into the particularities of a market so new that even seasoned marketers and branding execs are often at a loss to develop long-term strategies.

China’s car market is the world’s largest with growth opportunities that are dazzling. About 10 million vehicles will be bought in China this year, a 500 percent increase from 2000.

Yet despite the opportunities, foreign automakers face an uphill battle marketing cars in an intensely competitive and fickle market.

“The huge amount of foreign brands pushing into the Chinese market somehow overloads potential customers with far too much information,” said Jochen Goller, Vice President of marketing for BMW China.

“So it is getting more and more difficult to get brand and product messages through to and understood by the audience.”

One of the major problems faced by automakers that, on the whole, have been in the Chinese market for less than 20 years, is the idea of brand loyalty. Unlike more developed markets like Japan, South Korea and North America, Chinese consumers are less “enamored” with a set of brands and instead will switch among brands based on simple societal trends — like the one described above, as some brands are associated with the “nouveau riche”, who are often perceived as brash, uncultured and arrogant.

Despite the novelty of such campaigns as well as viral marketing initiatives such as a social networking website for BMW owners, industry experts say Chinese consumers have little brand loyalty.

“Few foreign automakers have successfully differentiated their brands in China so far because pricing, more than anything else, is still the number one concern for most buyers,” said Huang Zherui, an analyst with CSM Worldwide, a global industry consultancy.

“Customer loyalty is almost an unheard of concept here and even a moderate price-cut can easily swing customers away to the competing brands,” Huang added.

In China’s luxury sector, which makes up about 5 percent of car sales, Audi and BMW owners are starting to switch brands without a second thought.

One of the critical points made in the Reuters article is that of brand tailoring for a Chinese audience. While, for example, an American car buyer generally buys a vehicle for his or her commute — which can often be quite long in distance and time, requiring a comfortable interior — a certain class of Chinese commuter may hire a full-time driver, necessitating a comfortable back seat rather than a nicely-appointed driver’s seat.

Tailoring its models to the tastes of Chinese consumers, GM sells Cadillacs and other sedans with roomy backseats as many well-heeled Chinese prefer to be chauffeured through traffic-choked roads in China’s mega-cities.

Wrapping up, the article looks into the differing appeal of BMW and Audi in China, where one brand has emerged as flashy and ostentatious as the other has become associated with a more cerebral, businesslike clientele.

In sharp contrast to its sporty and sophisticated reputation in most of the world, BMW’s flashy image in China owes much to the company’s entry to the market in the mid-1990s when the first generation of newly wealthy began to emerge.

Desirable or not, the nouveau riche image has helped make China one of BMW’s fastest growing markets, with sales up 28 percent to 65,822 units last year.

Audi, meanwhile, benefited in a different way as the only foreign car brand on government procurement lists until recently, helping its A6 to become a favorite among senior Chinese officials.

Such unofficial endorsement has not only helped Audi, VW’s luxury brand, get a fifth of its annual China sales from government bodies, but has also made it a favorite among China’s new generation of business elite who often depend on government connections to get their jobs done.

“Audi buyers are people who want to keep both feet on the ground. They want to convey a very down-to-earth but still powerful image,” said Klaus Paur, director of automotive industry market research firm TNS’s North Asia branch.

BMW smart glasses turns you into a chief engineer

BMW team of researchers are working for two years at a solution that basically transforms the least experienced mechanic into a chief-engineer : glasses of intelligent assistance. They are connected wireless to a super-computer that contains all the necessary information for very complex actions.

The glasses are endowed with an objective which examines each component of the vehicle, and then, based on a chosen program, your computer may indicate his vision of the steps needed to go to solve the problem.

O novo fantasma da Rolls Royce custará US$ 250 mil, no exterior.

Gostou do fantasma? Confira então a sua galeria de imagens:
